Welcome back to the Magical Memories blog! Today’s topic: party favors! Throwing a themed party can be a daunting task sometimes: licensed merchandise can be expensive, and inviting a lot of kids over to celebrate your child’s special day can be costly. However, we’re here to help point you in the right direction!
Your local party store can be a great resource for party decorations and favors without breaking the bank; you won’t need a visit from Robin Hood for these fun and inexpensive little gifts! Our team took a trip down to a local Party City store to take a look at what’s out there for a party on a budget, and we found a lot of items that are both inexpensive and totally engaging. Here’s a few of the things we found!
Party City has a huge selection of reusable cups for just about any theme you can think of, from superheroes to princesses and Hello Kitty to sports. At only 99 cents each, you can ensure each child has a cup of their own that they can even take home and use again and again! They’re durable and totally washable, and they make for a cute miniature centerpiece in a pinch. The cups are also great for storing candy during the party, too: just layer in the candy bars or M&Ms and let the kids take a few for the ride. The best part? Easy cleanup!
Are you looking for an engaging craft that your kids and their guests can take part in at the party? These miniature posters are only a dollar apiece and come in lots of different themes with many different characters, and even the felt-tip markers are included! The markers are bright and colorful and can be used for many other craft projects down the line. Coloring in the lines is so easy thanks to the black, fuzzy texture of the poster, and your child will love to hang their completed work of art on their bedroom wall or on the fridge. This Marvel superheroes poster has three different characters in dynamic poses, which may inspire the partygoers to adopt a signature hero stance while taking photos with the birthday kid and the Magical Memories characters who drop by to say hello!
Every Magical Memories party features fun singing and dance games with the partygoers, so why not spice up the dance floor and dress-up games with these fun sunglasses?
These sunglasses only cost 60 cents each and have several different color variations and themes. This adorable sparkly pair is perfect for a princess party, while the slick racer style would make any secret agent or superhero jealous! They’re great for indoor and outdoor parties, and can be used again and again for Halloween or playing pretend at home.
These miniature collectable sticker books are great for party favors and stocking stuffers for the holiday season! Coming in a variety of themes, these sticker books cost only a dollar—and they’re reusable, meaning that your child can move them around anywhere in the book. The stickers can tell a story, or just go in order of whichever character your child likes best that day. The princess collection comes with either classic princesses or the Snow Sisters, and the Marvel superhero sticker book has all your favorite Avengers.
Many fans of Disney trips love to meet the characters and get their autographs, so give your child the chance to collect autographs from the Magical Memories cast when they visit the party! These notebook and stationary sets cost only a dollar apiece and can be used again for school, or can be used for autograph collecting for friends, family, and special birthday guests alike. There are several themes to be had and the memories of having a personalized message left for your child will stick with them for a long time to come. Who wouldn’t want a princess or superhero to wish a very personal—and permanent—happy birthday to them?
All in all, these adorable favors are great for party game winners, favor bag stuffers, and cute little holiday presents. A little can go a long way when it comes to making your child’s themed birthday party affordable and memorable. We hope that your creative juices are flowing and that you’re inspired to come up with your own party ideas, too! Let us know if you’ve tried any of these ideas, and share with us what you’ve done in the past!

Keep the Magic Alive!
You have lots of choices, and many of these options can work with fake, craft store pumpkins as well as real ones. Use what you’ve got at home and DIY these three creative solutions to best fit your child’s party!
*Carve out a few “window’ holes in your pumpkin with a knife (or a Dremel, if you’re using a fake pumpkin), and give it a few even coats of metallic silver spray paint.
*Then, take four smaller pumpkins (leftovers from the craft store are perfect for this) and cut off the top stem part: these will act as the wheels of your carriage. You can use air-drying clay like Model Magic to create a false “hubcap” to cover the holes; then, spray paint them a metallic gold.
*Create a base for your carriage out of wooden dowels and paint them gold as well. Drill holes in the bottom of each of your wheels, creating holes large enough to allow the dowels to fit right through. Connect the dowels to the wheels, and you’ve got your base!
*It’s time to decorate! Use fun trimmings from around the house or the craft store to decorate your magical pumpkin carriage however you like! Rhinestones always add a lovely shine to any project; Sandra Lee of Food Network fame used lace trimmings to create a breathtaking window covering. Finally, insert some battery operated votive candles, and you’ve made yourself a fabulous carriage! Cinderella’s fairy godmother would be jealous.
2. Make a flower pot using a pumpkin! These could be used as mini table centerpieces for the little ones at their tables, brightening up the party space as they do their crafts! A narrow pumpkin of a medium size is best for this project. First, cut a hole in the top that is about the width of a mason jar, which can be found in any craft store.

*Carefully remove all the seeds and insides of the pumpkin, or Dremel out the inside of a fake, plastic pumpkin. You can paint your soon-to-be flower pot in any color you like to best match the theme of your child’s birthday party!
*Next, place your flowers into a mason jar and lower it into the center of the pumpkin. If you’re using real flowers, make sure to fill the jar with water; if using fake flowers (which may be a better choice with little ones around!), you can forgo the water and just place the flowers inside the jar.
*Decorate as you see fit: wrap ribbons around it, bedazzle it with rhinestones, whatever you like!
3. And of course, you can repaint and repurpose Halloween pumpkins to suit your party’s theme! If your child is having a superhero party, check out Marvel and DC templates on Google images and print them out, then pick out your paint colors.
*Apply a few even layers of your base color, then trace your superhero design onto the pumpkin using the template. It’s best to go slowly as you paint on your designs with acrylic paint to get a clean edge to the lines.
*To get the 3d effect such as on Spiderman’s mask, use fabric paint or puffy paint to achieve the look you want!
*Finally, add a glaze such as Mod Podge over the completed painting design to seal the paint, especially if you’ve been using fake craft store pumpkins. Sealing your work can prevent scuffs, which is great when you have kids around who might decide to use the pumpkins like Thor’s hammer!
We hope you’ve enjoyed this first weekly installment of the Magical Memories blog! Let us know if you’ve tried any of these ideas out: we’d love to see them in action.
Ice cream cones are being used in super cute, and creative ways, especially for princess parties! We are seeing a lot of princess cakes using cones on top to replicate a castle, or cones used to hold cupcakes.
There are various ways to incorporate cones to make adorable princess treats, had to post these cute pictures!
